LIAO
“My love of combining unusual materials led me to create my knitted and
crocheted wire jewelry. I use traditional textile techniques to form
unconventional structures for my jewelry and handbags. I knit the wire with
gemstones and pearls to form soft and feminine structures. On other pieces, I
trap rhinestones inside knitted mesh, then further weave the strands together to
form an interlaced whole. I believe that the best in fashion defies all trends
and boldly asserts itself. My works are traditional, even familiar or retro, yet
I strive to convey the thrill of the unexpected. My creations are functional
objects, yet sculptural in their own right – they are unique artistic
statements. Due to the hand making processes involved, no two finished objects
can be exactly alike. I want those who acquire my works for their utilitarian
purpose to know that they carry artistic expressions of texture and beauty which
can become the heirlooms of tomorrow. My goal is to transform the functional
object from the ordinary to the special, from the traditional into the new and
exciting.”
