Handblown Glas
My designs are created by laying
out hand-pulled cane (glass rods) in a mosaic-like pattern. The cane is laid out
on a sheet of steel called a marver. Once the cane is heated sufficiently on the
marver, the first gather of glass on the pipe is then rolled across it, picking
up the design onto a core of colored glass. Several more layers of clear glass
are then gathered onto the piece, after which it is blown out and formed.
My work reflects my interest in
the patterns found in nature, like the striations in rocks and the visual
rhythms of plants. Although I have a specific reference in mind when I create my
surface designs, I enjoy that people form their own interpretations of what they
see in my work. What is important is to engage the imagination.

Sculptural Cast Glass
I'm currently collaborating with
Steven, doing textural studies on heavily cased vases. Using resist and deep
blasting, these techniques create a carved appearance. The relief areas echo and
complement the existing surface design on the blown pieces.
